Personas

Auxiliary product decision making and design

Aims

Persona can help us consider the issue as a user. The goal here is that we will think of them as people who are actually around us. Personas can bring team members together to create a precise shared version that lets members know who they are designing and what they want.

Outline

Under normal circumstances, personas are a group of people or a team to gather characters in a specific environment, turn their facts into stories, depict the user's image with rich details, help us focus on the role of the situation, help Let's understand the role of the information.

Steps

1. Before the discussion, there is a very important premise whether we agree with the user-centred design concept when the persona is created,  it will be accepted by the customer and put into use in the future.

2-1. After clarifying the topic, we need to understand what kind of users are our target, how many they have, how big effective they can provide is our products or systems, and we can use data analytics to get the users we need.

2-2. Building a hypothesis and constructing personas - Finding materials, get the differences between users and then tag the user population and outline the target users. Construct a fictional character and get basic information, which can include name, gender, and photo. The psychological part can be roughly divided into introversion and extroversion. In terms of background, the information we can get has occupations, personal interest and so on.

3. Defining situations and create scenarios - After the above materials are summarized, the scene can be defined. The goal is to adapt the scene of the persona's needs to suit the scene and to find the right scene and create the plot. Under the set scenes and goals, we can think about when persona will happen in the story, we need to use the persona description and the scene formed by the scene.

4. Link user research and detail, reduce subjective speculation, and what users really need, and make us more clear about how to make decisions when designing or improving a product, ensuring how important plans and made, avoiding wasted time and money. In this process, effectiveness, completeness and comprehensiveness are important steps for measuring the success of a persona.

Examples

Comments

Advantages - Data is very complicated and is not conducive to remember something. However, Persona is alive and self-repairing, because Persona uses personal information and experiences, and the network of relationships runs through the story. It is easier to capture the important qualities of users than simple scenarios.

Disadvantage - If people look for users without any research, they can only rely on their own imagination and intuition, and rely on their own past to observe the experience of others. Then there may be a bias in the final research results.

Application

Find the right range people for the defined problem, get the corresponding basic information and contact the target group's details throughout the story, consider the user's ideas, build the results that the user may expect, then merge all the ideas and propose ways to achieve the goals.

Learning

Time and

cost

Everyone can participate in it, discover information and use information, but can't inject too much of their own thoughts and deviate from user information. This is an important step to achieve a successful product.

The time spent is 1-3 hours. Each person will carry out a 5-10 minute description based on the information they have obtained, get useful information and record it. The cost of money is basically negligible, but looking for a quiet environment is It is necessary because it is good for people to think.
