About Final Project

PREVIOUS IDEAS

INTRODUCTION

This project is about to design a smart home device/art installation for people easily to move and avoid fall down in a dark area.

MY MOTIVATION(2 main reasons)

- 1. My grandmother couldn't easily find and turn on the light in the dark environment due to the position of the switch when she got up at night, causing she fell down. This is a very dangerous thing for the elderly to fall at night.
- 2. The second reason is that since I came to Ireland, I found that the stars in the night are clearly visible in fine weather, but in China, because of the pollution of the ambient air and the high buildings in the city, it is difficult to see such a beautiful starry sky.

These two reasons that led me to want to design a starry sky that can both automatically illuminate at night and simulate real stars.

LITERATURE

- INSTALLATION ART

- Installation art is a general term for an activity. It is to change a limited space in which to communicate within or around the space.

- Include 5 fields
- escape (immersive sensual pleasure);
- author and institution (installation space as the cultural laboratory);
- exchange and interaction (collaboration and science and technology);
- time and narrative (the practice of memory, memorial event and historical retrieval);

- the body of the audience (the interactive immersion of the viewer).

- Installation artworks demonstrate the perception and cognitive function of communication, interaction with the everyday environment, media technology and images, or the unconscious investigation of the mundane every- day life of the family, industry or society.

- EVOLUTION OF SMART HOMES FOR THE ELDERLY (Bethany Kon, Alex Lam, Jonathan Chan) - Most smart home researchers have tended to focus on the safety of elderly persons

- 6 benefits for the elderly (safety, health and nutrition, physical activity, personal hygiene and care, social engagement, and leisure)

- Smart homes aim to promote the independence of the elderly in their own homes as assisted living device and monitoring system

- A fully functional smart home should appeal to all the essential needs of the elderly in order to improve and enhance their daily living.

- CASALENDAR: A TEMPORAL INTERFACE FOR AUTOMATED HOMES

- Homes that are equipped with advanced building technologies and means for automation are becoming more widespread.

- In order to increase the acceptance and trust of
- Smart homes require to understand and interact with the amount of information and controls.technologies we need to foster intelligibility .
automation

- To enable better smart home interactions and to facilitate informed control when necessary, we need to enable an appropriate level of understanding.

- -AFFECTIVE COLOR IN VISUALIZATION (Lyn Bartram, Abhisekh Patra, Maureen C. Stone)

- AFFECTIVE COLOR IN VISUALIZATION

- Color psychology examines the interplay between color, cognition, affect and behaviour, considering factors of culture, emotional response and behavioural influence (particularly around consumer response)

- Yellow, orange and brown have less consistency of affective response
- Blue has positive links to the natural world and
,

are associated with positive content.

- AN INTERACTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL ART INSTALLATION

- The fragile environment might well become the most crucial matter for the future concerns of both artists and scientists

- Concern for the environment has become a central political and artistic issue in the contemporary world.

SOME PROJECTS INSPIRED ME

-  This left project is made with VVVV, and the particles move with the movement of people.

- This right project is a digital sundial, made with 3d printing, the principle is based on its latitude on the planet and updates the time every 20 minutes.

TECHNOLOGIES

- Programming, Sensor, LEDs, Electronics, 3D printing, Laser cutting, Adobe(Photoshop, Illustrator..)
