The Concept of Care Seminar

The theme of this seminar was “Cultural Probes and The Concept of Care Seminar”. In this workshop, a theoretical introduction of nearly one hour was included to let us know what is the concept of culture probe and care and how to use them. In the case presentation, we saw the application of nursing concepts when designing cultural probes to collect user data for design studies.

In the part of the workshop, there are two parts divided into sections. The first part is carried out before the presentation. The tasks we received included selecting different places on the campus according to different tasks. The second task was to describe our 17-year-old. We came from different countries and had different growth environments, which led to we have different life experience. The third task is to paint yourself. Although these tasks are complicated, it is undeniable that it is quite interesting. We have provided a cultural exploration for this seminar. In the process, we look at things, experiences and feelings are different. These materials were acquired to give people an idea of how the analysis part of cultural exploration is step by step.

In the second part of the workshop, our task is to think about where people's stress comes from, how it is generated, and what happens when people face stress. Our pressure may come from our personal relationships, work, deadlines and other aspects, how to relieve stress, our choices are food, music and travel. These can help us to relieve stress properly.
Another task is to simulate the dilemmas that we face in our daily lives when we are hearing impaired people and how to improve our devices or other things for them, so that people with hearing impairments can live more easily, just like normal people. In this task, in order to let us feel their daily life, we have brought headphones to simulate the real situation.

The final stage of the workshop was that the two groups merged and exchanged our ideas and designs for discussion. I believe that at this stage we provided effective feedback on the tasks. In this seminar, I feel that cultural exploration is real and effective. Our background allows us to be creative and to learn more questions to generate more ideas.
